100th Anniversary Event of OIV

Director of Vine and Wine Foundation of Armenia Zaruhi Muradyan participated in the 100th anniversary event of the International Organization of Viticulture and Winemaking (OIV).

The event summarizing the one-century activity of the International Organization of Viticulture and Winemaking took place in Brescia, Italy, which hosted ministers, ambassadors and high-ranking officials of the wine sector from 20 countries of the world.

During the meeting, the guests had the opportunity to present the challenges and achievements of the field of viticulture and winemaking in their countries, once again unanimously highlighting the importance of wine as a cultural asset.

Zaruhi Muradyan emphasized in her speech: "The winemaking sector, recognized by the government of Armenia as a priority area of the economy, is experiencing a renaissance, attracting more investments every year. Inspired by thousands-year-old winemaking traditions and supporting them with modern technologies and scientific potential, today we produce wines that meet international standards. The volume of the Armenian wine production may seem small at a first glance, but as a reviving industry, I think we are in a pretty good position, especially considering the competitive quality of our wines.

I am sure you have also heard about the legendary Armenian brandy. In the 1980s, Armenia supplied 25% of the Soviet Union's brandy and 3% of its wines. Wine is an inseparable part of our history, its evidence is everywhere: in ornaments, rituals and everyday life. Therefore, we certainly could not make a step back to the world of wine dominance."
